The Prudential RideLondon – Surrey 100 and 46 marked the first time the new club was officially represented in a Sportive. Balham CC received four places through British Cycling and in-turn Cameron, Andy, Greg and James secured the coveted starting places through a nail biting lucky draw involving a night out and a dog bowl. Three made it to the start line – and finish line – for the famous Surrey Sportive.
A large number of the club were also on the Queen Elizabeth Park start line in club colours after getting lucky in the RideLondon ballot.
Others did an amazing job of raising awareness and money through charity ride places, many of them with a personal story behind them.
Some took advantage of the closed roads the day before and took the family around the famous sights of London.
It was a great day for many reasons.
Kudos to Alastair who left Balham at 4.17am for his 5.44am starting slot and did it in 4hrs 32mins. Big thanks to Dave for taking the entire club’s puncture quota. Five in the first 30 miles was a truly selfless act.
