Club stays indoors to ride length of UK for St George’s Hospital

Today would have been the first club ride of the season, a 60-miler exploring the Surrey countryside, however due to COVID-19 and restrictions on movement this obviously didn’t happen. So instead we held a virtual indoor Balham CC club ride in support of St George’s Hospital Charity.

Aiming to collectively cycle the 1,407km from Lands’ End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) using indoor turbos, Zoom and Zwift, we hoped to raise £1,407 (see what we did there?)

By the end of the day we had exceeded all expectations, cycling a cumulative 3,392km and had raised £4,255 (and still counting) thanks to the extraordinary generosity of members, families, friends and the local community.

A special mention to James B who cycled 250km. Speaking to the membership after his mammoth effort he said the main lesson learned was not to underestimate the number of towels you will get through.

All this was turned around from idea to £4,000 in St George’s hands in 4 days. A fantastic effort from club members Donna, Patrick, James B, Yvonne, Pip, Phil J, Sam and Robert who pulled it all together.
