James Buchanan added first Balham CC hill climb competition entrant and podium to his BCC Palmarès (30th July). Riding in the Jersey Island BMRT Bonne Nuit Hill Climb he picked up third place in the seniors. Check out the route on VeloViewer
James was part of a BCC trio who raced in a Lea Valley CC Criterium marking the first time the club entered a competitive event since its relaunch in 2017. Five weeks later he became the first to win one, in the second round of the Full Gas Winter Circuit Series at Lee Valley Velopark.
He also raced in February marking his and Balham CC’s first venture into Category 3 racing.
Great to see the black and red jersey out being competitive. Chapeau JB!
ADDENDUM 16 August 2020
While in Jersey James also took on a TT (9th August) and Division 1 Crit (13 August). On the hilly Island Games TT Course – slightly shortened because of road works – he managed an average of 36.1kph and a time of 46mins 55secs good enough for 18th (out of 34). Hewas the second fastest on a road bike (as opposed to TT bike). James said: “Highlight was hitting a 90degreee left turn with an apex speed of 56kph. I can confirm GP5000 [Tyres] will slide in quite a controllable manner.”
